The northernmost town on the Drowned Coast, at the end of the coast road. Saltmarrow was prosperous once: its fleet fed half the seaboard, and the big houses on the bluff were built on fish money. The fleet is mostly gone now, and the houses are shuttered, but the families who own them never left.

What everyone knows

  • The catch is poor most years, but a few boats always come back full, and their crews never talk about where they fished.
  • The old families intermarry, keep to themselves, and own nearly everything worth owning.
  • Outsiders are tolerated, never welcomed. The inn has rooms, and the innkeeper asks how long you’re staying before your name.

Rumors

  • Church bells ring at odd hours on nights when no one is in the church.
  • Some families keep a seat empty at the dinner table.
